Even here, in the small village of Grand Portage on the north shore of Lake Superior, light pollution can be a big problem when trying to shoot the night sky. On an unseasonably warm January night the lights from the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino cast an overpowering glow into the sky. Coming from behind me, illumination from my neighbor's yard light creates long tree shadows out onto the ice of Grand Portage Bay.
