"Aurora Storm - August 6, 2011"
Here is a view that shows just how strong this geomagnetic storm was. This vantage point of the Spirit Tree is actually looking East/Southeast. Most of the time when shooting the northern lights at the tree I have to shoot the other profile of it, which is looking to the North. I've always wanted to get a nice strong aurora so I could photograph them behind the tree from this other angle, which is a more Southeasterly direction. Well, on August 6th, 2011 I got my wish!
SPIRIT TREE 2155
This was a 6 minute exposure made on June 13, 2009 at 1:30 a.m. Moonrise on this night was at midnight, but for the first two hours after midnight the moon was stuck behind some thin layers of clouds, which made for some really interesting images.
SPIRIT TREE 1770
"Spirits in the sky"
30 second exposure of the night sky at 1:18 a.m. on May 31, 2009. Shot at a high ISO (3200) on the Canon 5D Mark II, to make the Milky Way visible and to bring out more definition in the stars. The glow along the bottom of the image is from the city lights of Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is about 40 miles away.
