"Flying Saucer"

A 3-hour exposure made from 2:00 am to 5:00 am on March 28, 2009. This image earned the title "Flying Saucer" thanks to my brother, who thought that the rings made by the stars resemble what the bottom of a flying saucer might look like.

"Never-ending light"

78 minute exposure taken on September 19, 2009 on a seemingly "pitch-black" night. This image proves that even on the darkest of nights, there is still light to be captured.

"GP Light Pollution"

Even here, in the small village of Grand Portage on the north shore of Lake Superior, light pollution can be a big problem when trying to shoot the night sky. On an unseasonably warm January night the lights from the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino cast an overpowering glow into the sky. Coming from behind me, illumination from my neighbor's yard light creates long tree shadows out onto the ice of Grand Portage Bay.

"Remembering the Fitzgerald"

Split Rock Lighthouse State Park - Each year on November 10, the Split Rock Lighthouse light is lit in remembrance of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, an ore freighter that sank on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975.
